If you are exposed to Mandarin, you might be able to understand and hold a quick conversation, but to build a relationship you need to be able to hold conversations covering topics like watching your favourite game on tv and tell them about your job. Holding a conversation and building on it requires more vocabulary and more in depth knowledge on sentence construction this is what the Intermediate level aims to help you to do.
